Training Offered

An Overview

CPI is a 501(c)(3) (non-profit) public safety educational foundation and Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services Training School. We provide a wide range of training, including live-fire firearms training, force-on-force Simunition® scenario training, DCJS curriculum courses, foreign weapons familiarization, LEOSA-required qualification, investigator training, and executive protection training.

Simunition® Training

The Commonwealth Protection Institute conducts force-on-force scenario training utilizing the Simunition® FX® training system.

The FX® training system provides the most realistic and useful force-on-force simulations available.

CPI utilizes Simunition® factory-certified scenario instructors, Glock sole-purpose training weapons with Simunition® FX® reduced-energy marking cartridges and Simunition® protective gear.

FX® and Simunition® are registered trademarks of General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems-Canada Inc. CPI is under contractual obligation to provide FX® training to only qualified personnel. This training is not available to the general public.

Specialized Weapons Training

The Commonwealth Protection Institute offers live fire training in weapons including:

  • the HK MP5, UMP45, G3 and G36 systems,
  • FN Herstal's M249 Squad Automatic Weapons, (pictured above with Rob)
  • M60 General Purpose Machine Guns,
  • M79/M203 40mm munitions launchers,
  • as well as numerous other modern and legacy military and specialized operator weapons.

Foreign Weapons Familiarization Training

CPI offers hands-on operator and armorer training in the use of the following East Bloc weapons:
